Our logo concept reflects the multipurpose nature of Culture Cafe, embracing its roles as a cafe, gallery, and co-working space. We designed a logo mark that acts as a stamp, symbolizing each unique purpose coming together in harmony. The stamp-like quality gives the brand a sense of authenticity and flexibility, visually representing the distinct yet interconnected functions of the space. This approach allows the logo to adapt fluidly across different uses, capturing the essence of a dynamic environment where creativity, collaboration, and community seamlessly blend.
The spatial layout of Culture Cafe is designed for functionality and adaptability across different areas: the Cafe, the Gallery and the Workspace.
We created a logo mark symbolising the unity of each unique purpose within the space. This brings a sense of authenticity and adaptability to the brand, visually capturing the distinct yet harmonious roles that make up Culture Cafe.
Drawing from the contemporary African aesthetic that defines the cafe’s interior, we translated the concept of ‘the imperfection of the hands’—a celebration of craftsmanship and hand-made techniques—into the brand design and logo. This approach highlights the beauty of handcrafted elements, echoing the warmth and authenticity of Culture Cafe’s space through each visual touchpoint.
We drew inspiration from the natural tones within the space to create an earthy and warm colour palette for the brand. This palette reflects the warm, organic hues of the interior, grounding the brand in a sense of authenticity and connection to its environment.
We chose to infuse tactility into the logo, giving it a hand-painted feel to reflect the brand’s handcrafted essence. By incorporating textured backgrounds across digital platforms, we bring this sense of materiality to the forefront, bridging the digital and physical spaces. This approach reinforces the brand’s commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship, making the brand identity feel more connected to the tangible qualities of the space.
For typography, we selected Maison Neue Mono Regular as the primary font to introduce a structured, monospaced look that adds a touch of physicality and authenticity, echoing typewriter aesthetics. As secondary font, Founders Grotesk, a modern, versatile typeface, contrasts with the mono style, bringing a clean and contemporary balance. This combination captures the brand’s essence—grounded in craftsmanship with a forward-looking, adaptable identity.
We designed a comprehensive range of assets to ensure a cohesive and impactful presence across all touchpoints. This includes essentials like coffee cups, menus, and takeaway bags, each carefully crafted to reflect the brand's identity.
We created outdoor signage, incorporating vinyls and signs to enhance visibility and attract attention. These assets work together to strengthen the brand’s presence both within the cafe and in the surrounding community, ensuring a consistent, memorable experience for customers.
